What is GERD (Gastroesophageal-Reflux Disease)?

If you are familiar with a painful burning sensation in your chest after you eat, you may have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). When you have GERD, stomach acid or bile feels as if it's backing up toward your mouth. Heartburn and acid reflux are classic symptoms of GERD.  Long standing reflux especially in white males should be evaluated by and EGD to check for Barrett’s (a pre-cancerous condition).
