What is a Capsule Endoscopy?

This procedure uses a tiny wireless camera to take pictures of your digestive tract. The capsule endoscopy camera sits inside a vitamin-size capsule you swallow.

When you arrive for your capsule appointment, 9 “leads” will be placed on your chest/abdomen and a belt will be placed around your waist. You will be asked to swallow a large vitamin-sized camera capsule. The images are recorded by the recording device. You will be asked to wear the equipment for eight to nine (8-9) hours. You are encouraged to continue your daily routine but do not remove the equipment you will be wearing. At the end of day you will return to the clinic to have the recorder and leads removed. The capsule will pass naturally in your stool and may be safely flushed down the toilet for disposal. We do recommend monitoring to be sure the capsule has passed.
