What is a Fecal Transplant?

This is a procedure in which fecal matter that has been collected from a tested donor is placed in the patient’s colon. This is done by performing a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy. The colonoscope is advanced throughout the colon and the donor stool is placed into the colon. Fecal transplant is an option when recurrent Clostridium difficile, or C diff, is not responding to recommended treatment.

Before your procedure, you will need to follow specific preparation instructions that your doctor will discuss with you in detail.
